Stockport to see Greater Manchester’s First Park & Ride Scheme

Progress is now well advanced in relation to the plan to create a 455 space car park for commuters to be built on land close to the junction of Buxton Road and Macclesfield Road in Hazel Grove.

The proposal is to reduce congestion on the A6 by creating a park & ride scheme.  It is suggested that the car park will be free of charge with drivers then paying standard fares for buses running along the A6.  Transport buses hope that the £3 million will potentially cut more than 6,000 car journeys every month.

The new scheme will be the first in the country to be entirely privately funded and will use 40 new environmentally friendly buses costing more than £12 million.

Congestion on the A6 can be a nightmare particularly at peak times and any reduction in congestion will be viewed as a positive benefit to local businesses.
